Environmental management systems ensure organizations understand their interactions with the environment and control those interactions to reduce impacts, prevent pollution, and contribute to the environmental pillar of sustainability. An EMS goes beyond compliance with regulations and can help an organization provide products and services with fewer environmental risks, reduced waste streams, using controls designed to improve outcomes for the bottom line as well as the planet.
The objective of our EMS Basics Workshop is to introduce participants to the basic concepts of implementing and running an environmental management system. This interactive workshop will use real-life examples and a case study to explore and understand how an organization can identify environmental interactions and their resulting impacts to effectively plan an EMS. We will identify objectives, controls, monitoring, and measuring processes to implement an EMS plan, and discuss methods to improve the EMS and to enhance environmental outcomes.
This half-day class will be held at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, an Environmental Leadership Partner and ISO 14001:2015 registered organization. The course will include a presentation from DMNS regarding how their EMS is run, the benefits they have realized from their EMS, and an opportunity to ask questions of an environmental leader.
